Watch Seven Unlikely Pop Culture Icons (Beyonce! SpongeBob!) Rock Out to Queen's ‘We Will Rock You’

Queen’s “We Will Rock You” is one of the most successful and well-known songs in pop music. Rolling Stone named it the 330th Greatest Song of All Time in 2004, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009, and it has been covered by countless artists since its debut in 1977. Now the national tour of We Will Rock You, a musical featuring some of Queen’s biggest hits, is gearing up to play Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre from October 15 through October 20. We dove into YouTube in search of the wackiest interpretations of the rock ‘n’ roll anthem, sung by the most unlikely artists. Check out our favorites below!

Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink are Gladiator Queens
In this epic 2004 Pepsi commercial, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Pink play gladiators who forego a battle to the death in exchange for a Coliseum-rousing performance. These three, this setting, together? No complaints here. (Oh hey, angry Caesar-like Enrique Iglesias.)

The Cast of Glee Queens Out, Stomp Style
In the season four episode “Lights Out,” the members of New Directions are left to their own devices during a blackout at McKinley High. Performing acoustically, Kevin McHale and Darren Criss take the lead on “We Will Rock You” while the rest of the team uses everyday objects to create the music. Now we know what Stomp would look like with a Queen theme.

SpongeBob SquarePants Rocks Out Under the Sea
Everyone’s favorite porous cartoon character may squeak when he walks, but he sure does sound a lot like Freddie Mercury when he sings. OK, so this is the Queen frontman’s unmistakable voice coming out of SpongeBob’s mouth, but it doesn’t make this clip any less trippy. Bonus points to Patrick and Sandy for rocking out in the band. (Squidward, we’re not sure you fit in with this crew.)

Alvin and the Chipmunks Go Hard Rock
We’re accustomed to Alvin and the gang crooning for Christmas not to be late. In recent years, we’ve even gotten used to the Chipmunks singing contemporary pop hits like “Right Round” and “Bad Romance.” But to watch the pint-sized trio go at Queen’s stadium rock anthem? We’re a little surprised. Entertained and surprised.

The Lego People… Sing?
As kids, Legos taught us the fundamentals of architectural infrastructure. As adults that still act like kids, Lego video games help us reenact Star Wars, Batman and Harry Potter on Xbox. Now, the Lego people are showing us how to be rock stars? We didn’t know these guys had voices, but they sure know how to work a stop-motion rendition of “We Will Rock You.” (We like the 27-second mark when “Kickin’ your can all over the place” becomes quite literal.)
