In the national tour of Beauty and the Beast, Hilary Maiberger takes the spotlight as leading lady Belle. The actress talked to Broadway.com about making her “dream come true” in the show that plays the Hippodrome Theatre from January 22 through February 3. Find out what Maiberger had to say about her fairy tale show and more.

“Belle has been a dream role of mine, and it has been a dream come true to take on such an iconic character,” Maiberger said. “She is not your average Disney princess; Belle is smart and witty with a strong will and has a mind of her own. Belle is real and relatable.”

The musical’s heroine hails from a provincial French town and dreams of finding greater meaning, and Maiberger relates to this aspect of her character. “I grew up in a small town and always wanted to get out and do something great with my life. I think I have fulfilled that dream.”

Based on Disney's Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Beauty and the Beast features the songs from the 1991 movie, composed by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman with additional lyrics by Tim Rice. The family-friendly love story includes the songs “Belle,” “Be Our Guest” and the titular ballad.

Beauty and the Beast was relevant to me when I was a kid and it is relevant to my life now,” Maiberger said of being a part of the classic story. “Having the opportunity to be a part of this story every night is the best part of being in this show. When the Beast sees me for the first time in the yellow ball gown, I could go on and on and on!”
