Baltimore announces its 2012-2013 Broadway season.

A ballet-loving English boy and a misunderstood witch are heading to Baltimore! The 2012-2013 Hippodrome Broadway series will include the musical hits Billy Elliot and Wicked. In addition, the season will feature Million Dollar Quartet, American Idiot, Beauty and the Beast, Lombardi and Flashdance.

The Broadway blockbuster musical Wicked flies into Baltimore from October 3 through November 4. A vivid reimagining of the classic The Wizard of Oz, the musical spotlights the untold stories of Oz’s most famous characters: the Wicked Witch of the West and her unlikely friend, Glinda the Good. The Grammy-winning score by Stephen Schwartz features the songs “The Wizard and I,” “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.”

The Tony-winning Billy Elliot follows a young boy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising passion that inspires his family and his whole community. The acclaimed show, with a score penned by music legend Elton John, will run from December 18 through December 30.

Beauty and the Beast will arrive from January 22, 2013 through February 3. Based on Disney's Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this family-friendly musical love story features the songs “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Lombardi, the story of football’s greatest coach, will touchdown from March 5, 2013 through March 17. Though football’s Super Bowl trophy is named for him, few know the real story of Vince Lombardi the man—his inspirations, passions and ability to drive people to achieve what they never thought was possible.

Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins will rock Baltimore in Million Dollar Quartet from November 27, 2012 through December 2. Set at Sun Records in Memphis in 1956, Million Dollar Quartet tells the story of the twist of fate that brought the four music legends together for the only time in their careers for an impromptu recording that has become known as one of the greatest rock jam sessions of all time.

Flashdance will shimmy onto the Hippodrome stage from February 12, 2013 through February 17. Based on the hit 1983 movie, Flashdance tells the story of Alex, a working-class girl from Pittsburgh striving to make her dreams of becoming a professional dancer a reality. The show features the hit songs from the movie, “Flashdance—What a Feeling,” “Maniac,” “I Love Rock & Roll” and 10 original songs.

Direct from Broadway, the hit musical American Idiot tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Based on Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi platinum album, the show features the hits “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “21 Guns,” “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Holiday.” The rock musical will run from May 7, 2013 through May 12.
